To manage and coordinate the clearing and forwarding of imported and exported goods, ensuring compliance with customs regulations, timely delivery, and cost-effective shipping solutions.
Duties & Responsibilities
Coordinate import and export shipments (air, sea, and road freight)
Prepare, submit, and manage all customs clearance documentation
Prepare and submit accurate documentation, including permits, and tariff classifications.
Liaise with SARS Customs, shipping lines, airlines, transporters, warehouses government agencies to ensure timely cargo release.
Monitor shipments and proactively resolve delays or compliance issues.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of South African customs regulations, HS codes, and trade compliance requirements.
Must be able to communicate effectively with international suppliers, particularly in China, to request and negotiate quotations, obtain invoices, and coordinate shipment and delivery details
Provide regular status updates to internal stakeholders and clients.
Ensure proper record-keeping and filing of customs documentation for audits and compliance.
Calculate and verify duties, VAT, tariffs, and shipping costs.
Resolve clearance delays, inspections, and customs queries.
Arrange transport, warehousing, and delivery of goods handle queries, inspections, detentions, and stops efficiently
Amend entries when required and manage post-clearance queries
Maintain accurate records and filing for audits and compliance purposes
Ensure adherence to company policies, timelines, and service level agreements (SLAs).
Desired Experience & Qualification
Matric (Grade 12) is required.
Diploma or Degree in Logistics, International Trade, Supply Chain Management, Shipping or a related field is preferred
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in in clearing and forwarding or shipping operations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and logistics software (e.g., Cargowise, SAP, or similar).
Experience with SARS Customs, freight forwarding, and shipping documentation.
Knowledge of import/export laws and customs procedures.
